American Vanguard holds safety performance as a core tenet in supporting our ability to operate in the communities in which our factories are located. Sound processes, collaboration, and communication are the foundation of our robust safety and health programs.

We compare against the total recordable rate (TRR) for our industry (NAICS) and seek to perform better than this benchmark. Our industry has been between 1.6-1.8 TRR.

Injury rates increases are due to our renewed commitment to a timely understanding and response to all injuries and illness. Upticks in TRR are expected when renewing such commitment with a culture of robust and thorough reporting. Our emphasis on leading indicators across the enterprise further develop our ‘Safety First’ culture.

Employee Safety and Health

Increases in recordable incident rates were seen in 2022, and gave us opportunity to examine and focus on comprehensive training, robust hazard recognition and correction, and re-evaluation of job responsibilities. These efforts to ensure employees are prepared to perform their jobs safely are reflected in our lower recordable incident rates in 2023.
