COVID-19 Advisory: Employees Inside and Outside the U.S.

Re: COVID-19 – Update

While much of the content of this update concerns domestic matters, the nature of the information may also be useful for employees outside of the U.S.

Probable Trend of Pandemic in the US
Today, Scott Gottlieb, former Commissioner of the FDA and an expert on pandemic trends, gave his assessment on the likely trend of COVID-19 in the US. Over the course of the next several days, testing will be deployed on a much wider scale than before. As a consequence, we should expect that the number of reported cases will rise for several weeks, will likely peak toward the end of April and then begin to decline through late June. Dr. Gottlieb predicts that, if state and local restrictions on social distancing continue in effect, the number of domestic cases could reach 200,000. In short, it is safe to assume that current restrictions will remain in place for the next 3 – 4 months. Of course, these may change, particularly where there are localized outbreaks.

Newport Beach Offices
Much confusion ensued last night following the issuance of an order from Orange County’s Senior Health Officer regarding restrictions on gatherings outside of private homes. The Health Officer has clarified the order to make clear that businesses in the area are free to operate, provided that they observe social distancing practices as defined by the Governor. While a number of our personnel are working remotely, the office is in full operation, and a significant contingent of us continue to report to work at the headquarters offices under protocols of social distancing.

President Trump’s Recent Announcements
Yesterday, President Trump issued a set of Coronavirus Guidelines which we are posted on both our website at

and for your reference. Also, today the President announced that he would be invoking the Defense Production Act in order to expedite the production of respirators, masks, gloves, gowns and other medical equipment necessary to treat COVID-19.
